Overview:

Once best known for its beaches and idyllic, tropical climate, over the past decade Queensland has emerged as a wellspring of design innovation. High Tide is the first book to capture the output of this vibrant centre of contemporary Australian design.

Sumptuously presented, High Tide features furniture, object and industrial design by some of Australia’s most highly regarded creative talents, including Alexander Lotersztain, Christina Waterson, Marc Harrison and many others. With critical contributions from Paul McGillick, editor-in-chief of InDesign and Habitus magazines, Robert Forster, of iconic Australian rock group, the Go-Betweens, and others, High Tide considers how Queensland’s qualities of place have informed the development of its unique design culture. Comprehensive specifications, photography, and a product index are included, together with insights from the designers themselves into their inspirations and obsessions. An ideal resource for design hunters and professionals alike.

About the author:

Australian designer Jason Bird began his illustrious career in furniture design at one of the largest commercial architectural lighting manufacturers in his country. After relocating to the U.S, he was commissioned for various projects, including designing a track lighting range for a Fortune 150 company.

With numerous accolades and exhibitions reaching from New York to Tokyo, Bird was ready to plunge into the next step in his career. In 2006, he founded his own furniture design studio, Luxxbox, through which he produces his own collection of modern and cutting edge products. Bird creates a unique aesthetic through the use of unconventional materials, colors, and textures. Luxxbox’s commitment to supporting the local manufacturers of both its Californian and Australian studios produces a distinct international influence.
